The pond is full and spilling!

It was so exciting today to see the pond FULL and spilling! Such a motivational inspiration to find a way to keep the water healthy and clean. To that end we have been talking about…

  1. Transplanting bull rush, cattail, willow and sedge from nearby wetlands.

  2. Fish! Native ones? Moquito fish? Ideas?

  3. Creating a raft or island for water fowl - several folks have mentioned wanting ducks and geese here.

  4. Solar powered fountains or aerators to float on pond.

  5. Toying with the idea of planting fruit/nut trees or berries nearby to see if we can keep them alive over the summer without irrigation. Maybe even water cress at the inlet of the pond? Discovered a new batch of fencing circles up near the front greenhouses to help protect our planting.

Would love to hear your thoughts if you have ever done rehabilitation on or maintained a pond! Any interest in helping plant or build? Ideas on where to source what we need?
